Small Grants Program (Grant Activity Fund - GAF)
 
Financial assistance to people's organizations (PO's) to strengthen their institutional and technical capabilities for implementing measures supportive of SCOTIA objectives
 
  • Briefed PO's on GAF guidelines for applicants and facilitated training sessions to heighten PO capacity to implement proposed activities-leadership training, plan/activity formulation, organizational management, etc.
  • Priority to be given to activities supporting the following GAF objectives:
     
    1. Coastal Resources Conservation - strengthen the capability of local communities, LGU's, divers among others to implement measures for sustainability of coastal resources quality and its tourism value
    2. Environmental Management Initiatives - strengthen the capability of local communities, LGU's, and tourism industry operators in CRM, SWM, SMS, and CP (the 4 SCOTIA strategies)
    3. Information, Education, and Communication or IEC Initiatives - Raise people's awareness, value, and retention of sustainable measures for coastal tourism; activities that promote dialogue, dissemination, partnerships, and other innovative networking efforts to fortify the development process
    4. EUF Establishment - Development and implementation of policies and regulations

  • IEC manuals - In addition to drawing materials from other existing sources, SCOTIA team members developed their own IEC manuals as the need arose in the communities:
    - Ecological Solid Waste Management Manual
    - Barangay ESWM Planning Manual
    - Sustainable Funding for ESWM
    - Cleaner Production Manual for Resorts and Restaurants
    - Tool Kit for MPA Management
